Penfolds

Founded in 1944, Penfolds Wine was established in Australia by Christopher Rawson Penfold, a wine enthusiast with a penchant for winemaking. Together with his wife, they worked the soils and crafted the wine without conformity or rules of the industry but basing palates and production on personal judgement. Today, Penfolds wine is famed for its constant innovation, blends and varietals that has led it to become a household name across the world.

Penfolds’ Range

With its wide range of wines from Penfolds Bin to Penfolds Max, one of its most prolific series is the Penfolds Grange range, established by Max Schubert, Penfolds first chief winemaker. Penfolds Grange has been listed as a heritage icon of South Australia while the 2008 Grange is one of the few rare wines to score a perfect score of a 100 points by some of world’s most prominent wine experts.

Some of the other ranges under the Penfolds brand include the Penfolds Bin series, Penfolds Max’s, the Penfolds Cellar Reserve, Penfolds Koonunga Hill, Penfolds Limited Edition and the Penfolds Tribute Range. These range of wines all stem from South Australia from prominent winemaking regions such as Coonawarra and Barossa Valley to Adelaide Hills and Magill Estate.

The Penfolds wine is produced with a wide range of grape varietals from classics like Shiraz and Cabernet to Chardonny and Sauvignon Blanc. Regardless where you are in your wine journey, whether you favour big, bold flavours or light, fruity palates, you’re bound to find a Penfolds you love. The Penfolds wine is so cleverly innovated that it goes well with a wide range of dishes; so break the rules of pairing and give it a go with your favourite meals. The rule of thumb says red wines with red meats and white wines with white meats and seafood but with Penfolds, it’s almost always good so long as properly served.

Penfolds Wine Experience

For that perfect Penfolds experience, serve your red wines cool and your white wines cooler. It’s best to note that wine that is too cold won’t give you its optimal aromas as some flavours may be supressed. Full bodied whites and red wines are best enjoyed at 18-21 degrees while light whites are best served at 16 degrees. Considering our tropical climate, it would be best to store your wines in a wine chiller or at the bottom of your fridge, only to be brought out some 10-20 minutes before serving.

With its prominent mark around the world, it’s become customary for many, especially in Malaysia to make Penfolds a part of festivals and occasions. If you’re wondering which Penfolds wine is best matched for certain occasions, here are some useful pairings. When visiting special guest or ringing in the Lunar New Year, we’d recommend the Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvingon or the Penfolds Koonunga Hill 76 Shiraz Cabernet. As gifts for more significant occasions like a wedding, anniversary or to mark prominent life milestones, the 2004 Penfolds Grange and Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz will never disappoint.
