The Certified Organic grapes for our Organic Merlot were sourced from our own Nanya vineyard located near the township of Paringa in South Australia. The low disease pressure and moderately fertile soils of this vineyard allow it to be farmed without using synthetic fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides and hence it is fully certiﬁed organic.
The organic grapes for this wine were picked at night to make sure that they were as cool as possible. Crushed to temperature controlled fermenters the grapes were then allowed to macerate for 2 days before inoculation and fermentation. Pressed off skins 7 days later and allowed to go through the second malolactic fermentation. The wine has then had minimal handling prior to filtration for bottling in the certified Organic Angove winery.
Striking dark ruby red with aromas of raspberry and plum before an intriguing palate of dark red fruits that is complemented by
subtle use of oak providing extra depth of character.
